WISHBONE a word from the director……….
A terrific tale of daring, doing and living a dream. Of
bush rangers, teen-heroes and a group of friends and guardians
that have passed on knowledge and wise words for generations,
with the intent of outwitting the villains who are never
far away.
Welcome to the world of JOHNNY, of CLEOME and the GUARDIANS
OF GERT. Of ROY and DENVER, AGNES, a mother, who protects
at all costs and PHIL her live-in boyfriend.
Welcome, also, to the world of ST. MATILDA’S the school
for girls which holds true to the dream of Mad Dog Matilda,
his faithful steed GERT (Gertrude) and his companion FINTAN
the chocolate brown kelpie.
The tale is a beauty and we are two weeks into the shoot.
It’s impossible to measure or overstate the madness
and fun this has been so far. Impossible also to gauge the
sheer hard slog that has met us all everyday…
Kids, animals, weather, water, boats, ghosts, special effects….you
name it and it’s reared up to bite us…no day
has gone by without incident: despair, hilarity, utter lunacy.
It’s been great.
The crew and cast are surviving (!) and we are now in a
small ‘pause’ mode as we assemble footage so
far (about a third into the movie) and plot the next move:
logistics
of the 19th C bushranger days, the parade of the corrupt
mayor, the evocation from the guardians of gert (Gertrude,
the horse) and Fintan in the mythic tunnels of Matilda…yep,
it’s all in front of us..did I mention the horse-back
charges from the lunatic chief constable? That too.
There are actors who are still waiting to appear: the resistible
Henderson Jeans family and their corrupt real-estate cronies;
the mayors former wife, Eileen; the dreadful senior boys
of the Henderson Jeans Memorial Boys School to mention a
handful..
All soon to happen as we now move into weekends, late afternoon
and evening shoots as schools have now gone back, along with
much of the holidaying workforce.
I have to say a major ‘tar’ to all and I hope
that the footage and stills you see here give you a notion
of the formidable, yet glorious creature that is called WISHBONE.
Stay tuned for more…and more…and….
Cheers all
Dave Letch
